Dr. Ben Hruska: Valor and Courage: The Story of the USS Block Island Escort Carriers in WWII
Dr. Ben Hruska will discuss the colorful sea tales told to him by World War 2 sailors who served on the escort carrier USS Block Island. These men had survived the sinking of their vessel off the coast of Africa after suffering a German U-boat attack of 3 torpedoes. Hruska’s talk will include the methods of individual commemoration by these sailors to recount their lives at sea by constructing models of their vessel, attending reunions, and visiting naval museums.
Talk will be followed by Q & A and a book signing.
