Tuesday Talk: “My Time at NOAA – A Fish Story”

In this interesting presentation, former director of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service Janet Coit will address the scope and authority of that federal agency. She will delve into some of the use conflicts and controversial issues that were at the fore during her time at NOAA during the Biden Administration, including measures to mitigate the threats to endangered North Atlantic right whales.

Janet Coit has led a distinguished and impactful career of environmental service to Rhode Island and the nation, since her start as Environmental Counsel for Sen. John Chafee and the U.S Senate.  She subsequently was State Director, Rhode Island for the Nature Conservancy, for ten years, and then Director of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) for another ten years.   In 2021, she was tapped by former RI Governor and then U.S.Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo for her position at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  Her job as director of the National Fisheries Service ended with the new administration.

BIMI is thrilled to have someone of Janet’s national standing and experience join us for our Tuesday Talk series!
