The Fishing Academy

BIMI is home to The Fishing Academy on Block Island! The Fishing Academy was co-founded and directed in 2010 by Ian Pollock, a Vermont native who spent summers living and working on Block Island, bringing joy to the lives of the many children he taught to fish. The Academy is open to children 6–15 years of age. The Fishing Academy became an essential part of BIMI programs in the Summer of 2023.

Available Sessions

Sessions will run from 8:30am-11:30am on

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

* Please note that all sessions are dependent upon weather conditions. In the event a session is cancelled, we will do our best to accommodate campers on an alternate day/s. Participants will receive a call and/or text either the evening before or by 8 AM in the event of inclement weather.

We want each child to have the best fishing experience possible.

Children should behave in a manner that does not impede the learning experience of others.

All students are to meet at the Block Island Maritime Institute. See Directions from Old Harbor: From the ferry, take a right onto Water Street and follow all the way to Beach Street. Take a right on Beach Street and then a quick left onto Ocean Avenue. We are on the right, down the hill before Dead Eye Dick’s Restaurant.
