PRIVATE WELL WATER WORKSHOP FOR BLOCK ISLAND: Alyson McCann, URI Cooperative Extension Water Quality Coordinator

BIMI in conjunction with URI presents the 1st Tuesday Talk of 2021.

Block Island has an abundance of residents that have wells as their drinking water source. This workshop is directed at anyone that has a well, is thinking about purchasing a house with a well, or, if you are the curious type, someone simply interested in learning more about well as a water source. Topics covered include:

  • The importance of regular testing.
  • How to protect your well water for pollution.
  • Proper well maintenance.

Alyson McCann received an M.S. in Natural Resources Science from the University of Rhode Island (URI) in 1989 and focused on local and statewide initiatives for groundwater protection. She is the Cooperative Extension Water Quality Coordinator in the College of Environment and Life Sciences at URI where she has over 30 years of experience working with local, state, regional and federal partners to achieve water quality protection.  Her work most notably focuses on private drinking water well protection and collaborates with the Rhode Island Department of Health and local communities and nonprofit organizations.
